Literally out of nowhere, I got an interview with Boeing in Everett, WA, just north of Seattle. I wasn't even trying, and somehow the biggest aircraft company in the world wanted to interview me. I never expected to get the job.
But I did, and for a lot more money than I ever dreamed. I have turned down so many jobs in the last year, all over the country, for reasons ranging from stupid to valid. I had my move to Denver all set. But this...I would be stupid to turn it down. I will be a flight line mechanic on the brand new 787 Dreamliner. It is, quite literally, my dream job.
I'll be in a union company, making more money than I ever have, with a list of benefits one can really only get with a huge company, working in the largest building by-volume in the entire world, on the most advanced airliner ever built. It doesn't GET any better.
And so, the fiesty little conservative is moving to one of the most liberal states in the country. Wish me luck.
I'm also open to any suggestions about things to do in the Seattle/Everett area. You can leave out spoken word poetry night at Starbucks, or anything that screams hippie because it's really not my cup of tea. By the way...anyone know anything about the gun laws there? Concealed carry permits? Hunting?
I cannot stand it, I'm too excited.

Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checked by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.

fun facts, we are the only state in the union that allows people to drive on the beach. (only some beaches and you must be careful, but the privilege of chasing seagulls at 15 miles an hour in your mandatory pickup truck will soon be yours)
our state is an eclectic mix of laid back hippie types in many of the more populated areas and some rather backward yet fun hicks in the rural areas. fear not for your concealed weapons permit. [link] also as Everett is home to our local naval base as a conservative, you can expect to be among friends.
we are home to several active volcanoes, although not as many as Oregon which for future reference we pronounce as ORE-eh-Gun.
our hunting and fishing must be good based on the stories I hear, honestly I only do fishing/shellfishing to hang out with my dad and my uncle.
bake or barbeque your salmon with a little soysause and some lemon, thats all it needs.

also I suggest reading books by Betty MacDonald (specifically The Egg and I or Onions In the Stew ) to get in the right mindset. They are a little dated, as she wrote them slightly after the second world war, but MacDonald a pretty good obscure local author to know.
